Wonder Festival 2015 Summer: Misc Garage Kits (part 3)

That’s it, I’m done. If you want an image which pretty much explains what kind of weirdness to expect from these kinds of galleries, I think the banner image pretty much sums it up.

We can safely ignore the cool (and borderline NSFW) loli cyborg, The realistically proportioned and detailed sci-fi girl, the really great crouching sniper girl and the male characters who are clearly from some sort of visual novel. If you want a single picture to represent the oddities of the misc garage kit galleries, I can think of no better choice than a bearded guy with twintails and pink bikini & skirt screaming into a mic!

We’re done here folks! (until next time)

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: QuesQ

QuesQ’s Summer WonFes display featured painted and unpainted prototypes of characters from Kancolle, Touhou Project, Busou Shinki, and more (which, in this instance, means I can’t ID the other franchises).

The selection included a really neat unpainted Remilia Scarlet (see header) and cute painted Flandre Scarlet.

Be sure to check out the gallery for all of those characters I couldn’t ID.

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: Revoltech – Iron Man

Kaiyodo had Iron Men past and future at their Wonder Festival booth … well, Revoltech Iron Men. Kaiyodo’s display featured not only their past Iron Man Revoltechs, but the upcoming Mark XXI figure in its golden splendor.

It also serves as a nice look back at how the Revoltech line has evolved and how detail has improved on the sculpts. I’d also imagine articulation has gotten better … or at least I’d hope with some of the advancements we’ve seen in articulation.

[NSFW] Wonder Festival 2014 Summer – figFix Shimakaze kicks off new line

Wonder Festival saw Max Factory unveil a brand new line for the company – fixFix. As you might be able to guess from the name, it’s a spin on their omnipresent figma line, but without the signature poseability. Instead, these guys and girls will be static figures, but roughly in a similar scale (though pictures seem to indicate they’ll be a bit larger than the standard figma 1/12). It’s an idea Bandai has already used (to great success) with their Figuarts ZERO range.

As much as the range makes sense, Max Factory have opted for a rather odd choice to open the range. Sure, battle damaged Shimakaze has…mass appeal, but a NSFW figure in such a small scale seems a little redundant. Given the veritable flood of Kantai Collection figures, it’s not exactly an attention grabbing way to launch a new line either.

I definitely think the idea of small scale statics has appeal, but these things are going to live and die by pricing. ¥2000-3000 I can see myself nodding my head at, but if they begin reach any higher than that I’m sure plenty of people will have second thoughts. What about you readers, is this something you’re into, or does removing poseability also remove your interest for this scale?
