Tomopop editor misses start of Matty Collector’s amazing 7 Days of Cyber Monday Sale

A thousand and one ARRRRGGGHHS! Matty Collector’s 7 Days of Cyber Monday Sale opened to the general public (ie, us plebs who didn’t buy a sub) at noon today and, despite remembering it all morning prior to the sale, I wound up not checking it until around 12:40. The result? I missed out out on some incredible figures at amazing prices.

The still on-going sale features steep discounts to last year’s Club Infinite Earths figures (we’re talking DC Universe figures at US$6 apiece!!!) and the Watchmen figures (US$15, down from US$25) as well as a modest 20% discount to the older MOTUCs (bringing them down to non-inflated prices). Oh, plus the new over-sized Doomsday Unleashed is on sale for US$40. His companion, the containment suit version (previously on sale at SDCC), apparently sold out during Early Access.

So, what was sold out by the time I got there? Larfleeze. Ras Al Ghul. Elasti-Girl. LEAD! John Constantine (By the way, have you seen the show Constantine yet? It’s pretty awesome, like Doctor Who x Supernatural). Red Hood. All of which were available for US$6 (except the oversized Elasti-Girl and Lead who were US$9 which is still an incredible deal).

Sure, I still managed to grab the Doomsday Unleashed and a bunch of the discounted DCUs as well as a few choice MOTUCs (at long last my He-Man collection will finally include a He-Man), but I hate missing out on those US$9 over-sized DCUs because that’s a mind-bogglingly low price for two of the coolest over-sized selections (no disrespect to Bane and Darkseid). Plus Larfleeze? I can’t believe I missed out on McGreedy.

Of course, the more recent items weren’t on sale at all. I wound up just buying Intergalactic Skeletor because, with the FREE SHIPPING (on orders of over US$99), it beat having to keep looking on the aftermarket for a great deal (although I fully expect that I would have had an opportunity to get him cheaper by this time next year). And, of course, Castle Grayskull wasn’t marked down at all. Perhaps I should be grateful for that? After all, I might not be able to resist the gigantic playset if it was on sale for less than US$200.

Does anything stroke your fancy?

Start saving coins, Nendoroid Mario pre-orders have begun

It’s only been a few months since Nendoroid Mario was announced back at Wonder Festival 2014 (Summer), but it feels like a year! The wait will still continue for a while longer before he’s released in May 2015, but at least we’re now another step closer. Pre-orders for Mario opened today and he won’t be coming empty handed. Far from it. Despite a somewhat average price of ¥4,167 for a Nendoroid he’s coming packed with accessories!

Mario will be coming along with two expressions (open and closed mouth smile), an oversize green base (with a buch of stand arms), special hands, blocks, coin, backdrop, super mushroom, and special leg parts made to look like he’s either jumping or making a quick stop complete with effect part. Best of all is the crossed arm parts, not just for himself but for Luigi, too! Plus it’s not just Mario in the box, he’ll be joined by a Boo and Buzzy Beetle as well! The backdrop will be more than just free standing card as it’ll also come with its own supports that can suspend the blocks to make them look like they’re floating in the air.

I feel like the only thing missing is a kart. Kahotan also has photos on the GSC blog that you can see mirrored in the gallery. You can’t get your hands on one just yet, but reserving one now will make sure you have one in May. If you order through the Good Smile shop you’ll also get another three coins, but you’ll be paying a lot for something kinda small like that. Now I have to assume there’s at least one more figure on the way just because Mario and Luigi come with a Goomba, Bullet Bill, Buzzy Beetle, and Boo, but no Koopa Troopa. So, who will come with the Nendo Koopa?

Pre-orders start for First 4 Figures’ Dr. Robotnik statue

Last October, First 4 Figures asked fans what pose they wanted their Eggman/Dr. Robotnik statue to be cast in. Well, as it turns out, the open-armed, manically laughing pose won the poll, and First 4 Figures have produced a new statue based off that pose. Furthermore, he’s up for pre-order starting today on First 4’s shop.

Beyond the post, the 22-inch tall Robotnik statue (which according to First 4, puts him to-scale with the other Sonic line pieces) has two additional, Chaos Emerald-holding hands as optional parts. The base is based off the platforms from Sonic 2‘s Wing Fortress Zone, and I think he looks pretty darn awesome.

The First 4 Robotnik is limited to 1,000 pieces and priced at US$399.99, with a 2nd quarter of 2015 ship date.

Kids can explore the hands-on activities in both the walker and ride-on modes to see fascinating sights, hear silly sounds and touch interesting textures. Playskool and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro. When little wobblers are bored with walls and sofa edges, and there’s no one to offer a hand, they can two-foot it safely across that open ocean of living-room floor with the help of the Step Start walker. This dual-purpose toy acts as stable support as they learn to walk, then lets them roll along when they want to ride. Once they are secure on their legs, the walker converts easily to a first ride-on toy. (Only adults can operate the wheel-lock mechanism.) A flexible antenna, spinning drum, clicking gear, and other sight-touch-sound features provide sit-down play fun. Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver. –Ava Natov
