Matty Collector closed with a whisper rather than a bang late last year (although the final sale — which I stupidly delayed in ordering until it was too late — was an explosion of value), taking with it many of our cherished toy lines. While the Masters of the Universe Classics line is effectively dead (Super 9 is making *some* figures, but so far they just seem like repaints of previously released MotUCs… and I stupidly delayed pulling the trigger there as well), the older releases may briefly live on in Mattel’s shop.
Mattel has added many of Matty Collector’s Masters of the Universe figures to its shop, including the classics and minis. On top of that, the site is offering free shipping on all of its Masters items during this week.
While this seems like great news, many of these figures have been available through Mattel’s ebay sellers store and, in some instances, at a cheaper price. Plus not everything they list is actually in stock, including convention items like the Hover Robots 3-pack.
All the same, I suppose this is good news since it feels a bit less like overstock they’re still trying to get rid of… although that’s almost certainly what these are. And, on the brighter side, it seems to include some things I haven’t seen listed in their ebay seller’s store.

With Super7 expanding out to San Diego, you already know they had big things planned for this years SDCC. Not only will they have their booth #4945 inside the convention, but they will have a second offsite location at the Super7 store in East Village. What will be taking over…
While I’ve missed a lot of great deals this Black Friday, I’ve found at least a few modest sales. One of of the smallest (but still relatively cool) sales is Hasbro Toy Shop‘s “FREESHIP10” promo code which gives 10% off the cost of your total order and free shipping (no minimum).
It’s a deal that let me get my hands on a few figures I haven’t seen at retail yet like Transformers Generations Waspinator and Windblade (who I *may* have thought twice about after seeing Fwoosh’s in-hand images) as well as the (previously?) short-packed Marvel Infinites Wasp at a slightly better than usual price (assuming that retailers don’t price-drop on Deluxe Generations figures again). It’s a good opportunity to pick up some odds and ends you might have missed.
The sale started yesterday and runs through November 30th.
Metro Detroit-based designer toy shop Lift is expanding into a new shop called hihi. To be located next door to Lift at 220 W. 4th St., Royal Oak, Mich., hihi’s focus will be “Kawaii-themed products” including Hello Kitty and Sanrio merch, anime items, plenty of candy and more.
The grand opening party for hihi is taking place Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern, with music and some deals at both hihi and Lift. It’s pretty interesting to see hihi opening at a time when many other shops are closing up, but having been a Southeast Michigan native for many years, hihi could definitely fill a niche that’s been missing (Especially since Ann Arbor’s Wizzywig closed a few years ago).

I’ve been waiting for this news for quite some time now, but here’s the good: Bandai is opening the Tamashii Web Shop for international customers. As with Good Smile Company’s opening last year, international customers can now order goods that were previously only limited to the Japanese market. Just as with GSC, you are paying with PayPal and a flat shipping fee of ¥2,000 per order applies.
However, this is just a test run for Tamashii. As of current, the shop only has 1 item for order, a Figuarts Zero of Chopper – Are You Fine? ver. for ¥1,500. I am really hoping that this goes well and Bandai opens up more items from its shops. I don’t want to deal with middlemen who mark up their prices way too high and would much rather buy directly.
That being said, I’m ready to send money for that PG Unicorn Full Armor Weapons Set, MG Tallgeese III, and the CMS Decade Driver. Open up the shop and the money will come soon. For bonus measure, you won’t have to hear me whine about it anymore! Isn’t that reason enough?
