Odin the Destroyer may be the most powerful figure in DST’s Marvel Select line

Last year, I picked up Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Odin BAF and thought to myself, “It doesn’t get much better than this!” Of course, Diamond Select Toys must have heard that thought and taken it as a challenge since the company will be releasing an absolutely staggering Odin the Destroyer Marvel Select figure which is destined for a place of honor on my shelves next to their incredible Marvel Select Juggernaut.

The story first broke on where we learned that the figure will stand a massive 9-inches tall (but, as with previous over-sized characters, will still retail for the same US$25 which is an absolute bargain) and features 16 points of articulation. Perhaps coolest of all, it comes with two interchangeable heads: a Destroyer helmet/head as well as a highly detailed Odin head. The figure also includes the massive Odinsword which, while small in Odin’s hands, should looks gigantic next to normal 7-inch Marvel Select figures.

The preview photo and details were also accompanied by a preview video which shows Odin towering over his son, Thor. Once again, I should point out that this figure will be a phenomenal value at US$25.

This must-own for Marvel fans is slated for a late 2016 release and pre-orders will go live on June 22. Press details after the jump.

Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, and other UFC fighters take the fight to Funko’s Pop! line

Remember Ronda Rousey? Arguably one of the biggest celebrities in 2015 (and most-searched people on Google), the dominant former UFC champ made headlines thanks to title bouts short enough to be compressed into GIFs. For less than the cost of a UFC pay-per-view, you can add Funko’s upcoming Pop! Ronda Rousey to your shelves.

Funko is set to release Pop! UFC figures for Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, Chris Weidman, Jose Aldo, Anderson Silva, and BJ Penn. While it’s a decent line-up, it’s a little unfair to Ronda that she won’t have an opponent in your collection… oh well, maybe the next assortment will fix that?

Expect to see these at retail starting in June.

Check out Phicen Limited 1/6th scale Lady Action 12-inch female figure from Captain Action line

Captain Action was an action figure created in 1966, equipped with a wardrobe of costumes allowing him to become Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Aquaman, the Phantom, The Lone Ranger (and Tonto), Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Sgt. Fury, Steve Canyon, and the Green Hornet. Captain Action was the Ideal Toy Company’s answer to Hasbro’s G.I. Joe—although the protagonist dolls of both toy lines were created and designed by the same toy-and-idea man, Stan Weston.

After just a few years, the Captain Action line declined in sales, in 1968, Ideal Toys discontinued it. Though Captain Action was produced for only two and a half years, the characters and accessories have become amongst the most fondly remembered, and expensive to obtain on the collector’s market, action figures of the era.

After 30 years off the market, Captain Action was revived in 1998, by retro toy company Playing Mantis (Captain Action and Dr EVil posted HERE with Group pictures HERE). In addition to Captain Action and Dr. Evil, costumes released boxed with Captain Action figure were The Lone Ranger (in red and black outfit), Tonto, Flash Gordon, his never-before-made nemesis Ming the Merciless (with a new flesh-tone Dr. Evil figure) – posted HERE, The Green Hornet, and his never-before-made sidekick Kato (pictures HERE with updated / improved body version HERE). The line met with lackluster sales, and carded costumes-only were issued separately: Green Hornet, Kato, Lone Ranger (in blue outfit), Tonto (Lone Ranger and Tonto posted HERE), The Phantom (pictures HERE), and his never-before-made enemy Kabai Singh (posted on my toy blog HERE). Also revived was Action Boy (now called Kid Action, due to Hasbro owning the rights to the name Action Man – pictures posted HERE) and retro long box packaging for Captain Action and Dr. Evil. The changes made little difference in the general sales and the second coming of Captain Action ended in 2000.

Since 2005 Captain Action Enterprises holds the licensing rights and has been producing an array of new merchandize, including statues, toys, comics, trading cards, collectibles and apparel. In March 2011, Round 2 Corp. and Captain Action Enterprises announced plans for a redesigned 1/6 scale Captain Action figure.

Now for the latest cooperative effort between Phicen Limited, GoHero, and Executive Replicas: Lady Action from the Captain Action comic series comes alive in 1:6 scale!

Hello, boys: King of Hell Crowley introduced to Pop! line

Funko’s last few Supernatural announcements prompted the expected, “Where the hell is Crowley?”, questions. That question has finally been answered with a definitive, “Here he is!”, when Funko unveiled everybody’s favorite King of Hell in Pop! form.

Crowley (played by Mark Sherman, who I thought was an incredibly talented actor before catching his cringe-worthy performance in Alligator X where, among other things, he tried his hand at an American accent) is one of Supernatural’s longest-running characters, having premiered in Season 5 (after being referenced by name as early as Season 3) and survived all the way to Season 10 so far. Formerly the King of the Crossroads, Crowley was introduced as Lilith’s right-hand demon (making him third in command if you count Lucifer) but, as time went on, the character climbed the ranks to not only become the King of Hell but also a major supporting character.

Crowley notably sports a slimmer build than the average Pop! which is an interesting choice given that Crowley isn’t exactly a slim guy. Granted, it’s a good-looking design (and certainly stands above that Crowley custom crafted by a fan who got sick of waiting for Funko to step up). I’m just curious as to what Crowley is holding. It may be a cup of coffee or a similar item that was accidentally removed in the photo editing process.

Crowley is slated to release in December. The only question is who might follow him, given Supernatural‘s body count.

DC Comics joins Funko’s Mystery Minis line

Funko has officially unveiled its DC Comics Super Heroes Mystery Minis line which includes heavy-hitting heroes like Powergirl, Superman, and Batman, along with popular villains like Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Lex Luthor, and Black Manta. Plus the sculpting is pretty cool in most cases.

Although the set includes many of the expected characters — Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, etc — I was pleasantly surprised to see the series include a few lesser-used characters like Powergirl, Martian Manhunter, and Professor Zoom (albeit Zoom is a pretty easy redeco).

The full line-up consists of Superman, Black Manta, Batman (black & gray), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Wonder Woman, Powergirl, a super rare White Lantern Batman, Harley Quinn, Professor Zoom, Aquaman, “television series” Batman (classic blue & gray), powersuit Lex Luthor, metallic Harley Quinn, Flash, Deathstroke, Martian Manhunter, Professor Zoom, and a super rare White Lantern Hal Jordan. The rarity for most of these is a basic 1/12 but Black Manta, Martian Manhunter, Lex Luthor, and “television series” Batman are a higher 1/24 while a few others are 1/36 or 1/72.

Although I know that the style of the Mystery Minis line doesn’t appeal to all fans, but I’m personally looking forward to these. Expect to see the series hit shelves in January.

Wacky Wobblers line gets a little crazy with Harley Quinn and Deadpool

Funko’s Wacky Wobblers line just got a little crazier with the addition of Deadpool and Harley Quinn.

The Joker’s sidekick/love interest is depicted with her trusty, trademark mallet (accept no baseball bat substitutes) and looks fairly neat in bobblehead form. Deadpool, on the other hand, stands with his sword at the ready in one hand while the other is in a thumbs up position. It’s great for knowing that whatever you’re doing at the moment, Deadpool approves. How can you go wrong with that kind of encouragement?

Funko’s Wacky Wobbler Deadpool is slated for a November release while Harley Quinn is set to follow in January. Get ready to go nuts.
