DAM Toys STGCC2014 Exclusive 1/6 Gangsters Kingdom Spade J 12-inch action figure Review II

continued from previous post

Here’s the Dam Toys GK001EX STGCC2014 Exclusive 1/6 scale Gangsters Kingdom Spade J 12-inch figure dressed in all black from flat cap to black hooded sweater over black short sleeve T-shirt with black jeans and black boots. Over the sweater Spade J wears his black locomotive leather jacket. Let’s not forget his black sling bag as well. That’s quite a few layers of clothing. I actually left out his scarf which wasn’t black. You can check out all the contents in my part 1 review post HERE.

This time around, Dam Toys seems to have learnt from their earlier mistake by making the flat cap plastic molded instead of trying to do it using fabric because the paint of the fabric flat cap would rub off on the head sculpt and leave a nasty stain. Which is why many of us have left original Spade J standing without his cap on. Let’s break down Spade J’s wardrobe layer by layer. We have already seen Spade J with just his black T-shirt and silver chain necklace with his black jeans with belt and boots in the previous post. Let’s see how he looks with his black hooded sweater.

And here’s DAM Toys STGCC2014 Exclusive 1/6 scale Gangsters Kingdom Spade J 12-inch figure with the shoulder holster worn over the hooded sweater as he draws his P226 pistol
Finally, here we see Spade J wearing the black locomotive leather jacket. With so many layers, I did not bother to put the shoulder holster on in between the jacket and sweater. I doubt it’ll all squeeze in since it’s such a tight fit just with the clothes. I didn’t want the holster to be damaged somehow. So I left that out. With the leather jacket on, you can’t see the holster anyway.

The flat cap is also known as a Paddy cap, longshoreman’s cap, scally cap, Wigens cap, ivy cap, golf cap, duffer cap, driving cap, bicycle cap, Jeff cap, in Scotland as a bunnet, in Wales, as a Dai cap, and in England and New Zealand, as a cheese-cutter. It isn’t a peaked cap as Dam Toys call it.

STGCC 2014 Haul: DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom Spade J & DC Direct Batman Beyond

I was at the Singapore Toy Games & Comic Convention (STGCC 2014) last weekend and managed to pick up these two items 🙂 one is the new and very exclusive (limited run of 300 pieces) DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom GK001EX Spade J which has already fetched USD400 on e-bay (completed sales). This is the first Gangsters Kingdom toy fair exclusive figure by Dam Toys and there was certainly very heavy demand for this figure which sold out pretty fast. The other is the DC Direct Batman Beyond 1:6 Scale Deluxe Collector Figure based on the acclaimed animated series “Batman Beyond” (also known as “Batman of the Future”) that features teenager Terry McGinnis as a new Batman in a futuristic Gotham City under the tutelage of an elderly Bruce Wayne. I only got it because it was being let go at a good price 🙂 For my coverage of STGCC 2014 over four parts, you can check out my posts HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

Dam Toys has been doing a GREAT job with their Gangsters Kingdom series of 12-inch figures from the first released Spade J figure (which many people missed out on), followed by Spade 2, Spade 3, Spade 4 and the recently released Diamond 2 characters. In my toy blog post titled “The Gang’s all here!”, you can see the four Spade family 1:6 scale figures gathered together for a group picture HERE. I’ve also gotten the DAM TOYS (GK#005) Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch figure in August 2014 as part of my haul (posted HERE) and while I’ve taken pictures of it, I have yet to post them on my toy blog but will be doing so real soon.

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

If you had told me at the beginning of my toy collecting hobby that I would be collecting 1:6 scale gangster figures, I wouldn’t have believed you. That’s because in 1994 when I first started collecting toys and eventually 12-inch figures, there were only military and adventure themed figures for sale, from the Action Man and G.I. Joe line of figures. Since Dam Toys released their Gangsters Kingdom line, many collectors have been hooked because they offered something different and something no one else has attempted before. It was either hit or miss. Well, guess what? It’s been a hit ever since. The box design is similar to the first released Spade J figure except for the background graphics (see my review of Spade J version 1.0 HERE, HERE and HERE)
Batman Beyond (also known as Batman of the Future) is an American animated television series created by Warner Bros. Animation in collaboration with DC Comics as a continuation of the Batman legacy. Depicting teenager Terry McGinnis as a new Batman in a futuristic Gotham City under the tutelage of an elderly Bruce Wayne, the series began airing on January 10, 1999, and ended its run on December 18, 2001. After 52 episodes spanning three seasons and one direct-to-video film, the series was put on hold for the Justice League animated series, despite the network having announced plans for a fourth season.
At 1/6 scale, this DC Direct Batman Beyond 1:6 Scale Deluxe Collector figure stands 13 inches tall and features a cloth costume that accurately reproduces the character’s look from the animated Batman Beyond series. It comes with glider wings that measure 14 inches across. I was intrigued by how the toy designers interpreted the future Batman’s look, a little unconventional and very different from the rest of the other Batman characters. Haters gonna hate but somehow I like it!

So far I’ve only had the much smaller scale Batman Beyond action figures released by Mattel Toys (see my toy post HERE) so this is a welcome change as this makes it the 1:6 scale version of Terry McGinnis Batman of the Future.

Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6th scale Diamond 2 "Alger" 12-inch action figure Review II

continued from previous post

Here are the complete pictures of Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6th scale Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch action figure in full getup as he’s meant to be seen. The previous post and review provided a look at what Diamond 2 wore underneath the black coat with fur collar as well as detailed shots and pictures taken of his other 1/6 scale accessories, including Black waist chain wallet, Knuckle Duster, shotgun, Fly knife x 4, Brown leather bag, Silver necklace, left hand wristbands + Palm / hand, right hand wrist support + Palm / hand, extra Palms / hands x 3, and sunglasses.

All you see here is just an angry and pi$$ed off fella bringing his pump action shotgun to bear on those he deems his enemies or whoever he’s been called to dispose off for the good of the Diamond family, whose ties he has decided to be bound to after biting the hand that fed him. He’s Spade no mo’ “mofos”!

Diamond 2 may not know what loyalty means but who he looks like is Scott Edward Adkins, an English actor and martial artist best known for playing Yuri Boyka in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing and Undisputed III: Redemption, and as Hector in The Expendables 2. How close is the resemblance? Google “Yuri Boyka” and you’ll see.

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

Dam Toys has been doing quite a phenomenal job with these Gangsters Kingdom 12-inch figures, first with the Spade family 1:6 scale figures (all gathered for a group shot HERE) and now with this Diamond 2 Alger figure. Can’t wait for the rest of the line-up.
Check out the turnaround views of Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6th scale Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch action figure in his black coat with fur-lined collar
Here are close-up pictures of the Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom Diamond 2 “Alger” 1/6th scale stylized head sculpt. Very nice indeed 🙂

Review 1: DAM TOYS Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Diamond 2 "Alger" 12-inch action figure

Before we get to the Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom STGCC Exclusive Spade J figure (see previous post), let’s look at someone else from the same line by Dam Toys. This is the first Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom figure that is not from the Spade family. Actually, he was but he became a turncoat and joined Diamond and became Diamond 2 (you always start from the bottom and make your way up the chain)

Alger, the 2 of diamonds, is the key that changes the power pattern of the four families. He used to be the sidekick of the J of Spades. Alger would betray the Spade family and join the Diamonds instead. And so the story goes…

I got this figure sometime back in August 2014 (see my haul HERE) but between taking pictures and blogging about all the exciting toy and figure news about upcoming products, I couldn’t find the opportunity to post my reviews until now.

Scroll down to see all the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

Because Alger betrayed the Spade family to join Diamonds, the box art has a picture of a snake in the background. How appropriate. I like the renderings of the characters on the boxes as they capture the essence of the figures very well.
As with all the boxes, the inside flap lays out the background story and history of each character and every figure also comes with his own 1:1 scale playing card
Close-up shot of the Diamond 2 “Alger” 1:1 scale playing card
DAM TOYS Gangsters Kingdom Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch action figure is in the top tray. The tray below this contains all the 1/6 scale accessories (see next picture)
DAM TOYS (GK005) Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch action figure comes with 1/6 scale stylized Head sculpt, DAM 12-inch Action figure body (with tattoos), Black coat with fur collar, Long sleeve black T-shirt, Black trousers, Black waist chain wallet, Knuckle Duster, High barrel boots (one pair), shotgun, Fly knife x 4, Brown leather bag, belt, Silver necklace, left hand wristbands + Palm / hand, right hand wrist support + Palm / hand, extra Palms / hands x 3, sunglasses
Check out the Knuckle Duster in the shape of a skull. Very cool!
Here are all the 1/6 scale accessories laid out
2 of diamonds (Alger) is almost flaunting his betrayal after he changed his “loyalty” tattoo. He no longer has any loyalty in his heart. Alger is deeply influenced by Chinese culture, this is his motto, and his attitude towards life. Alger also tattooed the Tai Ji pattern on his right hand, hoping he could manage the power of balancing Yin and Yang. On his left hand is a tattoo of a compass, wishing himself never get lost.
The 1/6 scale head sculpt bears a certain resemblance of Scott Edward Adkins, an English actor and martial artist who is best known for playing Yuri Boyka in “Undisputed II: Last Man Standing” and “Undisputed III: Redemption”, Bradley Hume in “Holby City”, Ed Russell in “Mile High” and as Hector in “The Expendables 2”.
The long sleeve black T-shirt has a dragon motif in front.
Here’s DAM TOYS Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch action figure wearing just his long sleeve black T-shirt with dragon motif, Silver necklace and brandishing his shotgun which comes with a fore grip.
Check out those high barrel boots. They are similar to Spade J’s but NOT the same. It’s nice that Dam Toys made everything unique with each figure and didn’t choose to have the same style boots for all of them.
I liked these stylized head sculpts the first time I saw them. These are not movie-related figures and not meant to be screen-accurate so the deliberate sculpting of the heads in a stylized manner is a great move. It makes them different and makes me wanting to know who else they have that haven’t been released yet.
Here’s Diamond 2 with his knuckle duster and Fly knife x 3 (four is given but you can only get three to fit in one hand). These are similar to the throwing knives favored by Jason Statham as Lee Christmas in the Expendables movies. Check out the 1:6 scale version of Soldiers of Fortune “Lee Christmas” 12-inch figure HERE
DAM TOYS (GK005#) Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Diamond 2 “Alger” 12-inch action figure has “Flame of revenge” tattooed on both sides of his head
Diamond 2 Alger’s 1/6 scale Black coat with fur collar
