DesignerCon 2014: Flat Bonnie

As is her wont, Flat Bonnie‘s DesignerCon booth featured flat stuffed critters lined up on tiered displays resembling a grassy knoll. I spotted several fan favorites, like Flat Suggie the Sugar Glider and Flat Dusty the Chinchilla, nestled amongst the faux lawn dressings. The big draw were the two con-exclusives, though. The first was the Winter White edition of Sparq the Baby Dragon. This colorway resembled what fans saw in teasers of this character prior to its debut release at San Diego Comic Con 2014. Following in the winter theme, the second exclusive is Jackalope – Frozen edition. I especially liked the Jackalope’s forest-y feel, with the little pleather leaves on its arms and horns.

You can find more of Flat Bonnie’s darling flatties on her online store.

Flat Bonnie’s Sparq the Baby Dragon to debut at SDCC

When we first got a glimpse of Flat Bonnie‘s Sparq the Baby Dragon back in May, he was a nameless prototype, filled with possibilities and cotton. Now, he is on his way to debut at San Diego Comic-Con. And seeing how at SDCC, special colorways are all the rage, Sparq will be a con-exclusive Black Smoke edition. I will admit I was hoping for the sparkling white of the prototype but this one is equally awesome. Plus, Flat Bonnie’s Yukari assured us that other color variations will be made available online after the con.

Sparq the Baby Dragon, Black Smoke edition, is limited to 20 handmade pieces. Each 10 inch plush will cost US$40. San Diego Comic-Con attendees can find him at Giant Robot’s booth #1729.

DesignerCon 2013: Flat Bonnie

Checking out the Flat Bonnie booth at DesignerCon was akin to visiting a petting zoo stocked with flat, happy animals. The astroturf-lined tables were stacked with displays of the handmade plushes, including con-exclusives Baron Von Battington and Ice Tusk Woolly along with plush versions of Spanky Stokes‘s mascot, Stroll and his mate, Stroll’et. Another big draw to the booth was the debut of the prototype of Flat Bonnie and Nathan Hamill‘s Octopup Octoplush. There were actually two prototypes at the convention, the original at Flat Bonnie’s booth and a later, more finalized one that Nathan Hamill brought to his signing at 3D Retro’s booth. The pre-orders for the Octoplush began during DesignerCon but are still taking place on Flat Bonnie’s site

You can see the Octopup Octoplush prototype along with Flat Bonnie’s con-exclusives in the gallery.

Flat Bonnie unveils DesignerCon exclusives

Last night, Yukari of Flat Bonnie revealed several of the goodies that will be available at her DesignerCon booth (#705) this weekend in Pasadena, California. One big announcement is the debut of her collaboration with Nathan Hamill, turning his popular Octopup character into a plush known as “OctoPup – Octoplush.” The joint project was first teased in August. This handmade plush with be available to pre-order first at the con and then online on Flat Bonnie’s site starting on November 11. The cost to pre-order is US$100 plus shipping. They will ship starting January 6, 2014. The 12 inch plush is limited to 10 pieces. Each plush comes with a special, numbered tush tag.

As for special plushes available to take home straight from DesignerCon, Flat Bonnie will be bringing two con-exclusive toys. The first is Baron Von Battington, a monocle-wearing, mustachioed, 16 inch wide bat. The monocle even has a silver chain! This dapper fellow is limited to 10 pieces, each costing US$25. The second is a 13 inch tall, fluffy white woolly mammoth with shimmery tusks aptly named Ice Tusk Woolly. This one will be limited to 5 pieces, each costing US$50. Both of these characters have DesignerCon-exclusive numbered tush tags along with a special con-exclusive signed and numbered hangtag.

It looks to be quite a spiffy line-up so be sure to stop by booth #705 to see these adorable flatties for yourself. Be there or be flat!
