It’s finally here. This is the highly anticipated Art Figures AF-015 1/6th scale Heavy Armoured Special Cop “DREDD” 12-inch figure I’ve been waiting months for. When the preview pictures were first released, it created quite a bit of hype and excitement all over the internet, with dealers and collectors scrambling to get their pre-orders in before this figure gets pulled off the shelves for obvious reasons. Good thing it wasn’t and now we get to enjoy this figure for what it is: a great product with fine attention to details and true representation of a certain Judge. This figure is marvelous to behold and must be examined up close to be truly appreciated. What makes the deal even sweeter is the price since it’s nowhere near the pricing of Hot Toys and Sideshow’s products.
Some figures have been pulled of the shelves before and I was most afraid that this figure would suffer the same fate. In January 2012, DID released pictures of their upcoming Steve Jobs 12-inch figure (check out the pictures HERE) and it made so much waves that it even made the news (see my post HERE). Apple came down hard and DID caved (DID says “iQuit!” Steve Jobs 12-inch Figure a No-Go! Product Withdrawn, Apple Wins posted HERE). I’m just glad this figure made it to production and is now in my hands 🙂
Art Figures really came on the scene when they released their Art-Figures: SAVES “Punisher: War Zone” 12-inch Figure. A lot of people didn’t expect it to be that good and were caught by surprise. It then became a mad rush to get hold of the figure but due to the limited pre-order numbers, the supply was just not able to meet the sudden surge in demand. I was one of those who had pre-ordered and was able to get the figure and review it on my toy blog (see the posts HERE
). IMHO I think Art Figures has upped the ante with the release of this Artistic Interpretation Heavy Armoured Special Cop figure. The choice of materials used and the mix of textures really brings out the authenticity of this figure.

The box packaging has no name on it so you wouldn’t have guessed the product unless you had prior knowledge of it.
The box opens to reveal the Heavy Armoured Special Cop figure in the packing foam tray with all his gear and accessories including his machine pistol. The odd thing is the figure comes without his helmet even though the character never removes his helmet. What’s even weirder is that the head sculpt looks like a lego head. Lego’s humanoid mini-figures are one of the most iconic toys worldwide, but they have a strange design feature: a hole on the top of their heads. Why this hole exists is a mystery to most people. That hole can stick to a Lego brick, but why would anyone ever want to stick a humanoid head to a Lego brick? The reason: Lego put the hole on the top of the head just in case any kid got one of the heads stuck in their throat. That way they would be able to keep breathing. More on Judge Dredd’s lego head later.
Here’s the Art Figures AF-015 1/6th scale Heavy Armoured Special Cop “DREDD” 12-inch figure with all his gear and accessories laid out.
Art Figures AF-015 1/6th scale Heavy Armoured Special Cop “Dredd” comes dressed in his costume of Leather combat jacket, Leather combat pants, Combat gloves, Tactical knee pads, and Combat boots. I prefer to leave the Helmet with visor on his head as that’s how it was meant to be.
The 1/6 scale Leather combat jacket with elbow pads and pants are nice and fits the figure very well. I especially like the mixture of materials i.e. it’s not all just leather but different textures sewn / stitched together. The Combat gloves are the soft type with the bendable hands inside them. It’s good that we don’t have to put on the gloves ourselves. On the left glove sleeve there is a plastic window with some perps faces on it. I believe that’s supposed to be the mini computer where Heavy Armoured Special Cop “DREDD” can download and view who the bad guys are, their criminal records and history. The Tactical knee pads are part of his pants and the Combat boots are another thing of beauty.
You can put this 1/6 scale all black full leather suit on any 12-inch biker figure and he’ll look really cool and bada$$ wearing it.
Here are some close-up shots / pictures of the Art Figures 1/6th scale Heavy Armoured Special Cop head sculpt with the knob on top. In the 2012 science fiction action film “DREDD”, Karl Urban stars as Judge Dredd, a law enforcer given the power of judge, jury and executioner in a vast, dystopic metropolis called Mega-City One that lies in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Urban found the role challenging because the character never removes his helmet. We never got to see Karl Urban’s face so why Art Figures decided to release this figure with a removable helmet is beyond me. And the knob on top of his head is for the 1/6 scale helmet to sit nicely and firmly without moving about.
When the 1995 Judge Dredd film was released in theaters, many Dredd fans were disappointed and horrified when Sylvester Stallone who starred as Judge Dredd removed his helmet. The helmet is the most striking feature of the Dredd costume in the comic books and he never removed it. A 12-inch Judge Dredd figure from the 1995 movie was released by Medicom toys under their RAH (Real Action Heroes) line. It was one of the first 1/6 scale figures I picked up and you can see the pictures I posted on my toy blog HERE
This Art Figures AF-015 1/6th scale Heavy Armoured Special Cop “DREDD” 12-inch figure comes with battle scars on his neck. This would be almost hidden from view once you put on the Bulletproof vest with Name plate but it’s still a nice touch to stay true to the film. Attention to details like this makes me happy 🙂
DREDD wears a black sleeveless T-shirt under his leather jacket. Check out his pants and see how the different materials are stitched together. Pretty neat!
Here’s DREDD standing in front of his gear and accessories
Art Figures AF-015 1/6th scale Heavy Armoured Special Cop “Dredd” 12-inch figure comes with the following 1/6 scale accessories: Bulletproof vest with Name plate, Tactical shoulder pads, double magazine holders x 2, Stick grenade with Holder, belt with eagle buckle, Tactical folding knife, Gas mask in pouch, Smoke grenade with holder, First-aid kit, spare pistol clips / magazines x 3, Machine pistol with Holster.
Here’s another look at the 1/6 scale accessories with gas mask removed from the pouch and grenades removed from their holders.
