One of Leonardo’s most iconic images, the Aerial Screw (also known as the Helicopter) illustrates the ingenuity of da Vinci, and indicates his obsession with flying. While this idea may never have got off the ground, it gave us an insight into the different ways in which Leonardo considered the challenge of human powered flying, and defines him as an inventor and visionary well ahead of his time. While it is often referred to as a helicopter, the premise of the lift to make it rise is more like Archimedes Screw than the rotors of a helicopter. This model uses one of the bevel gears he drew in his codices and creates a nice 2 to 1 increase in speed of the crankshaft, so the mast spins quickly, illustrating the manner in which this machine would have worked. The kit features pieces that are drilled and pegged for strength, the canopy and support structure are removable for experimenting, and lots of interesting information about how it works. Kit stands about 15″ tall and 9″ across.
We believe in nurturing a child’s natural curiosity and that learning can be fun. Designed by a science educator, our Aerial Screw model kit allows you to explore science and history by building one of Leonardo da Vinci’s most iconic images.
A great build from beginner to advanced (ages 9+), this kit will keep you and your loved ones entertained for 1-3 hours and can be displayed once completed.

The Suburban has a rich history and is in fact the longest, continuously used nameplate still in production today. The Suburban can be defined as a station wagon based on a pickup truck chassis. As Chevy has changed its pickup trucks, so too has the Suburban changed. It has spanned eleven generations of trucks. This 1966 Suburban is part of the fifth generation started in 1960. The ‘60 through ‘66 Suburban was available with either a 6 cylinder or V-8 engine. The Suburban was large enough to have 2 rows of seating, and cargo space in the rear. For rear access, Chevy offered the choice of a tailgate opening or panel style doors. While the Suburban has changed in different ways over the years and has also been produced in other GM product lines, its fundamental concept has not changed.

The original Ford Bronco could be considered to be ahead of its time. It was Ford’s first compact SUV vehicle, a category which has become so popular today. The Bronco remained basically unchanged from 1966 to 1977, and has extended to 5 generations. Based on a 92 inch wheelbase, the first Bronco was intended as an off-road multi-purpose truck with 4 wheel drive. The base price was under $2,200 when it was introduced. The original Bronco offered a long list of options, but still remained a very basic vehicle. It was designed with a clear sheet, and unlike the Mustang, it did not use an existing platform. There were two engines to choose from, a straight 6 cylinder or a more powerful small block V-8, and three body styles, a wagon, a half-cab or a roadster. Other options included such things as a swing-a-way spare tire and bench-style back seat.

DESCRIPTIONSPECIFICATIONSGALLERYREQUIRED ITEMS This is an all-new kit designed by Tamiya’s top designers which recreates the “Easy Eight” variant of the legendary Sherman medium tank. The M4A3E8 was known fondly as the “Easy Eight” by its crews, thanks to the relatively smooth drive afforded by its Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS). Another distinguishing feature was its 76mm gun. Some of the 2,500 examples produced were in time to appear in the Battle of the Bulge (Dec. 1944-Jan. 1945), and others even served in the Korean War years after the Allied WWII triumph. Movie buffs will no doubt also recall that the “Easy Eight” was the star of the 2014 hit film “Fury.”
